Estimation of rain induced attenuation on earth- space path

چکیده
This paper describes research on earth-space attenuation on a microwave communications link set up at Belgaum-RC Nagar (Karnataka State), India, during July to September, each year. The rain data secured from India Meteorological Department, Bangalore has been used for analysis with the live data of rainfall recorded with the aid of two tipping bucket rain gauges, and a disdrometer. A simple model of interpretation of attenuation has been utilized with simple formulae to suit the purpose. The results of this experimentation are in agreement with the disdrometer observations and the data collected through experiment tallies with the Micro Rain Radar (MRR) Recorded data secured from the ISRO-operated-MRR rainfall data. The model used in the experimentation, it is hoped, would enable further research in to the aspects attenuation of microwave signals in different Tropical stations.

Ku-band Rain Attenuation Observations on an Earth-space Path in the Indian Region
Measurements of rain attenuation over an earth-space path at Kolkata (22°34' N, 88°29' E), India, have been carried out since June 2004 by receiving a Ku-band signal from the satellite NSS-6 (geostationary at 95 E). The instantaneous attenuations are estimated from the point rain rates measured with an optical raingauge and using the Simple Attenuation Model (SAM). The estimated values closely ...

Propagation measurements at Ku-band over an earth space path have been carried out at Kolkata (22°34’N, 88°29’E) by receiving a signal at 11.172 GHz from the satellite NSS-6 (geostationary at 95°E) since June 2004. The amplitudes of the co-polar signal and the cross-polar component have been monitored along with rain rate and drop size distribution measurements by an optical raingauge and a Jos...

The campaign to collect rain attenuation data on terrestrial links had commenced in Malaysian tropical climates for almost two decades. The terrestrial data so far collected have been greatly utilized to derive useful statistics for various microwave applications, such as frequency scaling, rain rate conversion factor, 1-min rain rate contour maps, wet antenna losses, and fade slope duration an...
متن کاملTime series predictor of Ku band rain attenuation over an Earth-space path at a tropical location
A channel model is proposed to predict the time series of Ku-band rain attenuation during rain events at a tropical location. The model is based on considering the Gaussian distribution of the conditional occurrence of rain attenuation with a particular value of the attenuation occurring before. The mean and standard deviation for the distribution are modelled with the experimental data. The at...
